Compassion Days

As a Compassion sponsor, your family is making a decision to invest personally in the life of a child in need. You'll help "Your Child" participate in a church-based program that offers life-changing benefits including help with learning development, health care, social-skills development and Christian Training. You, along with their parents, pastors, teachers and friends are taking an active role in encouraging and raising your child. Your Child will know your name, where you live, write your letters, draw you pictures and in return you will heklp them develop a sense of confidence and self worth by the love you express through letters and prayers.

Specifically, your child will hear the gospel and learn about jesus through regular Bible training and encouragement through a local church committed to Christ and the children of the community

Your child will have the opportunity to recieve an education. In some cases, this means money for school fees, uniforms, after school tutoring, help with homework and life skills, encouragement and extracurricular literacy programs.

Your child will be monitored and care will be provided when health issues arrise. They are taught personal hygiene and how to maintain personal health. Many Compassion children even receive supplementary food.

Your Child will be part of a church-based program where Christian adults provide love, guidance, personal attention, guided recreation and safety...all of which builds social skills and self confience.

Compassion International offers three distinctive values...A focus on child development. They target the needs of individual children first, not necessarily the community. They work exclusively through local churches which will help equip them to the Body of Christ and the LOVE God has for them. And thirdly, a goal of child discipleship. When they discover their worth to God, their self-esteem blossoms..they recognize their role in the Church and are discipled in the Word and the ways of God to become our most potent weapon against tomorrow's poverty.

You do not have to hold any specific Christian beliefs to sponsor a child through Compassion. However, Compassion is an evangelical Christian ministry dedicated to the holistic development of children in poverty. They carry out their programs by partnering with local Christian churches around the world who share the same vision for the local children and their families.

One of the most important ways to support your child outside of the sponsorship is with letters and pictures. Send them a picture of you and your family, your family pet, family activities. Encourange them in their school work and bible study. Tell them you love them and are praying for them and their parents. You can write a handwritten letter or you can go online and send an email letter that will go to Compassion for translating into their language. These letters and photos are treasured possession because it shows the love someone has for them, someone they have never met, someone who takes the time to care. They see the love and caring attitude of Christ. This opens the door to help the local churches explain how much Jesus loves them and what He has done for their eternal souls.

Sponsor, write and love your child. Plus the most important and critical link is prayer. Your Child is in need and vulnerable. Pray for their health and safety, for their education and spiritual development. It's vital that your Child knows that you are praying for them everyday. You can rest assured that Your Child will be praying for you too. A little boy or girl, kneeling on a mat in their hut, lifting YOU up before God. These children will LOVE YOU!

Christmas and birthdays are a great time to offer gifts for your child. Compassion encourages you to give additional monetary gifts to address specific needs. These monetary gifts, between $10-$25, go 100% to the child. Local project workers that deal with your child on a daily basis will buy what these children need most.

If you want to visit your Child in the future, on a vacation or a trip, just contact the Compassion office and they can either make all the arrangement neccessary from special airfares and hotels, to transportation to the schools and homes. When you meet your child like we did, your heart will not be able to hold all the joy Christ has to offer. You can find out more by calling toll free 800-336-7542 Monday through Friday 10am-7pm.

In addition from hearing from your child about their activities, Compassion will send you periodic updates about your child's progress and newsletters about situations in your child's country.

When you sponsor a child, YOU are the only person sponsoring that child. They will be be receiving multiple letters from multiple sponsors. A Christian adult that was a Compassion Child proudly displayed the pictures of her sponsoring family even though she has been out of the program for years...THAT is how much you mean to these children. It's NOT a monthly support...it's a LIFE CHANGING event in their lives. We pray that you will treat it with the same love and thoughtfulness.

If you don't want to or can't afford to sponsor a child every month, please consdier the Partners of Compassion Fund. It provides critical special assistance when designated giving falls short for program expenses like Bibles for all Children, Disaster Relief, Education, Leadership Development Programs at the university, Medical Assistance, nonformal education, Nutrition and Health, Scholarships, Parent Training Programs, Partner Development, Unsponsored Children's Fund, HIV/AIDS education, Child Advocacy programs.
