Two Days of Compassion
By Randy Pierce
The first week of June, my wife and I had the opportunity to see first hand what Compassion International does in and around Chiang Mai, Thailand. From the Thailand home office where the staff translates letters from children and their sponsors, to visiting the homes and villages where these children live. One impressive thing about Compassion is they work directly with pastors and churches in these villages. Their mission statement is "In response to the Great Commission, Compassion exists as an advocate for children, to release them from their poverty and enable them to become responsible and fulfilled Christian adults." Will you help spread the word?
Did you know that at least one third of the world's children live in extreme poverty? They are hungry, in poor health, do not attend school and are neglected. In Thailand, we visited "homes", rooms 12 by 12 which housed an entire family! A fire pit in the center of the room to cook and heat, one mat on the bamboo floor as their bed, a washtub outside for a bath and to wash what dishes and clothes they owned. Then...you see a shy smile from the kids that do not understand English, but they break through with that "universal smile". We met a dad struggling with no job, no way to care for his family, alcoholism because he has nowhere to turn...cries in front of strangers because they are willing to LOVE and PRAY for him and his kids! He says "Finally, someone who cares that my kids get the opportunity to learn and have annual heath checkups!" And a mom, ashamed that she can't do more for her family, a mom that works in the fields with a two year old strapped to her back because they have nobody to watch the baby and they need money for their family. Even so, all their efforts earn them about $15-$60 USD....a month!
Thank you for teaming up with WCQR to sponsor and make a difference in the lives of kids around the world with Compassion International. If you haven't selected a child yet, just click here! I can not tell you the difference you will make in a life. You can make s difference RIGHT NOW! For just $32 a month you can help a child in Thailand or other areas around the world. Compassion offers you the chance to love and assist one of these children in the name of Jesus.
Paige and I have sponsored a young man named Randy Kurniawan in Indonesia through high school...and we just met our 'new daughter' Parinyalak "Prin" in Thailand. I can not tell you the blessing it is to know that over the next 18 years we will help Prin go to school and her about her experiences, she will learn about Jesus Christ and could possibly change the lives of her family and her friends in a country where you are 'born Buddhist". These children will go to high school because of your support and hopefully continue through Leadership Training Development at the University and grow up to be a responsible Christian adult. Will you please search the faces and read the stories of a child you can help...pick a birthday, a child that may be the same age as your child, maybe even a child with your name.
With your support, little children like 6 year old Niran (Ran), who came up to me as we were getting ready to leave the project, and through our Thai translator told me, "I already miss you!" You sponsorship can help these kids have access to education, tutoring, health screenings, recreational activities, food and medicine. But most importantly will hear the life-changing message of Jesus Christ.
Will you do me a favor? More than 50,000 children are on the Compassion waiting list right now. Will you Click here for more information on sponsoring a child who desperately needs your help. I promise you, it will not only change your life but the life of one of these sweet children.
